From the one conversation screen shot I saw, the recipient of his flaccid peen photo was not then offended. The release of all of this now seems with intent to damage him.

Do people really think things like this are private when they share them on Twitter? Kind of shocking that someone who worked for the NSA could possibly think this was a secure enough way to indulge in this type of behavior without being discovered. Bizarre.

That’s what I thought was weird about this story.

I’ve followed Schindler on Twitter ever since he was one of the few who was making sense about Ed Snowden—he coined the term (and hashtag) #SnowdenOp to describe the whole circus. And yeah, he could be a jerk but I assumed he was giving as good as he was getting from the Snowwald fanatics.

It begs the question of how the picture got out, though. If it wasn’t sent via DM, well, that would be ridiculous and stupid of Schindler to do so—but not inconceivable, as a certain ex-New York politician can affirm. If it was DMed then either the recipient leaked it or someone hacked the recipient’s (or Schindler’s) Twitter account.

Bob Cesca put it succinctly enough:

As pernicious as the NSA may be, mob rule by an army of Greenwald/Snowden worshippers would be a hundred times worse.

The Gawker article shows screenshots of a Yahoo email account and also what looks like IPhone texts, so I’m assuming the exchange happened on other media first and then was released on Twitter today.

Still seems out of place for a professional intelligence analyst…

Also seems like whoever released the photo (T3H_ARCH3R) also deleted.

Well, one could point out that an entire agency of intelligence analysts were blindsided by one Edward Snowden.

Schindler’s a human being; we make mistakes. That’s not intended to excuse what he did, just point out that he wasn’t as good at keeping it under wraps (um, so to speak) as he thought. And this is assuming someone didn’t illegally gain access to his or the recipients’ personal files.

Really, though, being the target of harassment by Greenwald’s minions (he stated at least once that people have tried to get him in trouble with his employers) should have made him more careful.

True, but the photo might not even have been his. I could see hackers faking the leak of a photo like this to discredit one of Greenwald/Snowden’s toughest critics.
