George Zimmerman Loses Case Against NBC. Why? (w/ video)

A Florida judge ruled Monday that George Zimmerman has no right to damages from NBC for defamation of character, because he failed to prove that the network had acted with malicious intent - the standard required to prevail in a libel suit involving a public figure.

I don’t agree. The way NBC edited the tape of his 911 call sure looked like malice to me. They made it sound like Zimmerman told the dispatcher Martin was black on his own initiative, whereas Zimmerman in fact only mentioned that after the dispatcher asked him about the description and race of the person he was following.
Moreover, I don’t think the ‘public figure’ standard is appropriate here. Zimmerman’s ways to respond to NBC’s bad edit were severely circumscribed by the need to keep quiet publicly prior to the trial.
