Just a “Good” Guy With a Gun Until…
People make poor driving decisions all the time in New York City, and occasionally the NYPD will be on hand to issue a summons. Yesterday morning, they started off thinking that it would be another routine traffic stop.
It wasn’t.
While driving in the Village, the driver made an illegal turn north onto Seventh Avenue, which runs in the opposite direction. The responding officers stopped the vehicle, a rental car driven by Victor Greer of Reading, PA, and then noticed two knives in the driver’s seat. Looking further, several boxes of ammo were found. A magazine was found locked on the floor with another 20 rounds.
Then, examining the trunk, two AR-15 rifles, a shotgun, and a handgun were found, along with a note.
It’s the note that is truly disturbing and makes you wonder what this guy was intending to do.
The note:
“I want to die in combat, so I can go to heaven and meet God.”
At the moment, Greer is facing multiple weapons charges.
The Daily News found that he has prior arrests for firearms possession and reckless driving in Pennsylvania, along with a prior arrest in Florida for an altercation with law enforcement. Yet, his mother thinks that he was never violent according to local Pennsylvania news reports that interviewed her yesterday. His mother also indicated that he appeared to be suffering from depression and stays in his room for days after being out of work for two years.
This guy was up to no good, may be suffering from mental illness, and yet here he was in New York with multiple firearms with a note suggesting he was intent on doing harm to others.
The most likely explanation for his behavior may be that he may have been thinking of engaging in suicide by cop, though the fact that he was arrested without further incident suggests he was conflicted over doing so. Either way, he’s going to need serious mental health assistance.
It also once again highlights the easy and ready access to high powered firearms without much effort to keep these weapons out of the hands of those who are mentally ill, who have prior arrests, etc.
