Yeah, there are a lot of dire stories in the news right now but I don’t think we can let this go unnoticed. The GOP war on women is about more than controlling our sex lives. It also involves demeaning women in general by treating them dismissively, especially women who have dared to excel in fields dominated by men. This clip shows the deferential and appreciative tone employed when addressing Bernanke and compares it with how Yellen is questioned. Watch the treatment of Yellen as she testifies before Congress. The GOP senators are abominably rude, interrupting her as soon as she starts to speak, and “smiling” at her in a way that signals that they don’t think she knows what she is doing. Yellen’s handling of the Federal Reserve has been hardly different that Bernanke’s but because she is a woman it is suddenly suspect.
