Oh, goody. Something new for Pammy G to get all bug-eyed and veiny-throated about…

Really? We’re back to this Mandy type shit again? Asshole.

5 electrotek  Jul 18, 2014 8:57:29pm

Must have been Germantown, since that area is full of African-American Salafis like the ones who robbed a bank in niqaab in 2008 and went on a car chase.

6 CuriousLurker  Jul 18, 2014 9:03:39pm

The asshats who do this sort of thing are the worst kind of ignorant. Nobody is the “Amir” of anything here as the U.S. Isn’t an Islamic state and there is no caliphate in place. Even if there was, freaking imams wouldn’t have the authority to just drag someone out back and chop off their hand, FFS.

These idiots get a copy of the Qur’an and start interpreting things on their own and this is what you end up with. They need to be in jail, not trying to run a mosque where they’re no doubt spreading their ignorance around.

Then people like KiTA come along and add their jackassery to the mix.

Gah! The stupid, it burns.

7 CuriousLurker  Jul 18, 2014 9:06:20pm

Oh great, this guy too. Every knuckle-dragger seems to be coming out this weekend.

The mosque is in Overbrook - West Philadelphia

re: #8 team_fukit

Well, color me surprised. Is the mosque a Salafi one?

re: #9 electrotek

I’m not sure. It seems to be run out of a house very informally, it’s got a canvas banner strapped to it that says “Masjid AR-Razaqq UL-Karim”

11 Jayleia  Jul 18, 2014 10:09:01pm

As a general rule, I refuse to accept “house with a banner in front” as an acceptable definition for church, mosque or synagogue…why?

Because most of the time, the people that use that particular “house of worship” are usually all too unsuitable as typical members of that religion…

re: #11 Jayleia

The banner does make it seem jackleg. But then again, so does the arm-chopping.

13 electrotek  Jul 19, 2014 12:08:30am

So is condemning Salafis frowned upon here now or what? Keep getting downvoted for no reason other than stating the obvious. Ridiculous.

re: #13 electrotek

Would condemning all mormons because of actions of Warren Jeffs be ok? Would condemning all Calvinists because of Gary North be ok?
How about all Baptists because of what Westboro baptist does?
How about all Catholics because of SSPX?
All Jews because of the “price tag” settlers?

Are you beginning to get it?

15 Randall Gross  Jul 19, 2014 4:09:45am

oh and what about those Amish beard cutters, those buddhist hate groups in Myanmar? Ok to hate all Amish or Buddhists in your book?

I condemn you for being a knuckle dragging moron. You either stereotype entire groups of people by the actions of a few, or you’re a bigot. And instead of have the stones to be introspective about the reasons people are offended by your statements, you double down by directly implying it’s everybody else who has the problem, not you. That also makes you an asshole.

We don’t spend time condemning those Salafis that would cut off others hands because it’s stating the blatantly obvious. You condemn all Salafis because you condemn Salafism, and I’ll bet all Muslims.

I condemn you and all others like you that think like that. You and your ilk are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Ridiculous.

What is ridiculous is the entirety of your “body of work” here.

re: #16 Ryan King

Electtotek has previously claimed to be a Shia Muslim, so the hatred is reserved primarily for Sunnis (see examples here and here)—it’s a hatred that runs long & deep as you can see by what’s still going on today in places like Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

He also seems to despise American Muslims. Why he thinks it’s a good idea to bring the worst Mideast baggage to the West is beyond me. Envy maybe.

It’s perfectly acceptable to hate on Buddhist extremists like the 969 nutjobs in Burma or the Bodu Bada Senu idiots in Sri Lanka. Salafis are an extremist representation of the Islamic faith, just like the BBS nutjobs are of the Buddhist faith, that is responsible for destabilizing and destroying the many indigenous cultures of various Muslim lands. It deserves the most scorn.

I just think how it’s ironic that Evangelicals are open for criticism but when it comes to other groups we should just not say anything.

There is a wide gulf between ‘just not say anything’ [which is a straw man in this case] and hearing of an occurrence you have no knowledge of, other than the sketchy article linked, and using it as an opportunity to bring up your favorite bogeymen for condemnation.

If you aren’t coming here for downdings, why are you coming here?

re: #18 CuriousLurker

I see. No hate for all Muslims, just hate for all (Type X, Y, Z) Muslims.

It’s still hate and bigotry and I’m glad to see Lizards calling it for what it is. It’s the stuff the drives and maintains conflict, not resolves conflict.

re: #21 wrenchwench

Of course he was. Electrotek’s automatic (bigoted) assumption was that it must’ve been low-income “ghetto” African American salafis, hence the reference to Germantown and his surprise at hearing the mosque was located in West Philly. Here’s a local article from philly.com with a photo of the house.

Germantown, Philadelphia: History and demographics

Between 1954 and 1956 Germantown experienced an influx of lower-income African Americans, resulting in a decline in property values and triggering a “white flight” of the majority of white residents to the suburbs. The demographic shift caused a slow but steady decline in central Germantown’s upscale shopping district, with the last department store, a J. C. Penney branch, closing in the early 1980s.

The current demographics of Germantown reflects this shift. As of the 2010 US Census, Germantown proper is 77% black, 15% white, 3% non-white Hispanic, and 2% Asian, and East Germantown is 92% black, 3% white, 2% non-white Hispanic, and 2% Asian. […]

It’s never ok to hate a whole group of people for the extreme actions of a specific few. The salafis who are extremists willing to enact their narrow interpretations of Koranic law are a subset of salafis, just as the qods force basiji shia are a specific subset of “Shia”. I don’t condemn all shia for the murder and beheading of my friend’s son for instance, or even all “qods force” commandos. There were a specific few who kidnapped him in Southern Iraq, who held him for ransom, who chopped off his finger, and then left his headless body rotting in the sun. Those specific few monsters I can condemn.
