Here in California, some cities are issuing $500 fines if people water their lawn. In one of those cities a homeowner has received a $500 fine from their HOA for not watering their lawn, because a brown lawn “devalues” the neighborhood.

Had to belong to a HOA once; never again.

This reminds me of the page FemNaziBitch put up about the woman suing to get a job she wouldn’t do if she were hired.

There’s some kind of weird disconnect in these people, that their individual belief systems somehow trump all other external systems. Woman applies for nursing job, says she won’t do all the required duties of a nurse, and then is totally shocked and affronted when she’s denied the job. Dude signs a HOA contract, then is enraged when the HOA tries to enforce the terms of the contract.

Mini-sovereign citizens. They’re not far removed from the nuts who refuse to tag their cars, get drivers licenses and pay their taxes.

I’m in an HOA and I prefer it. Just got a letter stating that I need to paint the trim to match my garage doors. Actually, since I replaced one of the garage doors because I bent it and had trim replaced on both doors, I need to paint all of it. I knew I needed to do it because it doesn’t match and looks silly. I’ve been busy and out of town, but now I’ll have to find the time to do it. No big deal. I agree that it looks ridiculous. LOL.

My HOA hasn’t been a pain at all, really. Nothing they’ve done has been unreasonable, not like some I’ve heard about.

I’m no fan of HOAs: they’re run by busy-body retirees who consider foolish consistency a virtue. Living in NoVA doesn’t offer much choice, though: you can live in the hinterlands free of an HOA, but pretty much everything build after about 1960 has one.

What gets me is how this guy has really taken the “wishing for the better days of the past that never actually existed” and run with it. He sees SO MUCH religious content in the Constitution that simply isn’t there: it’s as if he’s confused 200 years of commentary *about* the Constitution with the actual document itself. In particular, the last 30-odd years of “founded as a Christian nation” and wacky Dominionist/Objectivist mashup etc.
