OK - everyone knows I think a lot of the craziness about the NSA is just paranoia, but this is genuinely concerning, and it has nothing to do with the NSA. A very clear invasion of privacy, and on top of that, insanely bad security practices.

This whole country went nuts after 9/11. This kind of stuff has to stop.

NO SHIT SHERLOCK.

In 2007 Zedushka and I visited Russia. We traveled from Detroit to Amsterdam, and in Amsterdam we met up with our son, who traveled separately from New York, and then we went on to Moscow.

On the return trip, we again connected through Amsterdam, my son got a flight to New York and we flew back to Detroit.

At customs in DTW, the customs agent said to us “Where is the third member of your party?”

That’s what we old subversives said then. It wasn’t well-received.

Jonathan Ryan should only get the photo credit. Article is by Cyrus Farivar.

The amount of information USCIS requires for immigration is astounding. I will post more later, but suffice to say I think Feds have more information on me than a corporation could ever dream of.

It’s not going stop, in fact it got a little bit worse last week (also non-NSA).

I pointed it out in a thread downstairs this morning, but hardly anyone seemed interested or concerned.

THIS. Everyone was too scared & angry back then. There were a few exceptions (who, as you mentioned weren’t well-received), but most people weren’t thinking clearly or looking at the possible long-term consequences.

Everyone wanted to be feel safe RIGHT NOW more than they wanted to protect their freedoms. Besides who gave a damn if those effing Muslims got profiled or had no privacy? None of those bastards can be trusted anyway and they all deserved it for attacking us.

So now here we all are—black, white, yellow, and brown; Muslim, Christian, Jew, and atheist—sliding down the slippery slope together.

Your own safety is at stake when your neighbor’s wall is ablaze.
