It is murder and he should be punished as such.

Too bad for him he did it in California. In Texas, Georgia, or Florida he’d get a marksmanship award from the local PD.

By the way, I edited the post to link to the original article instead of Raw Story. The Raw Story piece was nothing more than a cursory rewrite of NBC’s article, and they get upset when we link to them, so I suggest that everyone go to the original article instead of using RS as a source.

Thanks. I didn’t realize that.

Yes, they get very upset when people link to their cursory rewrites, especially if they quote their hastily rewritten text, so that’s why I suggest that we simply don’t link to them any more, and go to the original source instead.

If you compare the Raw Story version of the piece with one I linked above, you can see it’s simply a paragraph-by-paragraph rephrasing of the NBC article.

I don’t visit Raw Story (except for TBogg on occasion) for that very reason - a low-end HuffPo with less side boob.

That’s not self defense. It will take a jury to sort out the rest. Not the guys first time getting robbed, extreme pain from a physical attack (we did have to go to the hospital) and a rather advanced age. It’s still not self defense of course i point these things out for understanding the whole picture. These things will be relevant in sentencing should he be convicted of a charge.

This is self defense

The apartment resident, whom authorities did not identify, told police that one of the men shot into the door of his first-floor apartment, and they pushed inside, Toler said. They shoved a 19-year-old man, who lives there with his 17-year-old girlfriend, into a bedroom and asked for “his stuff,” she said.

The tenant pulled out a shotgun and fired three times, hitting both men, Toler said.

Later Tuesday, dried blood trailed on the well-worn carpet down the hall of the apartment building, to the front stoop and down the steps.

A fairly typical comment from the Daily News:

Way to go! Two for one. One less thot, and one less future thug. The only way this could have been better is if he killed all three of them. The mother should be charged with murder after the fact for putting her fetus in jeopardy. They thought they would beat & rob an 80 year old man, but he went “Dirty Harry” on them. It’s good to see a happy ending once in awhile!

This is why we can’t have nice things in this country.

Indeed. I am so sick of this fucking vigilante mentality. Yeah it was wrong that they tried to rob the guy. No doubt whatsoever. But that doesn’t excuse cold blooded murder.

I do think this is a murder case, and it makes little difference I suppose, but CNN reports that the woman was not pregnant. Also, this was the fourth time people had burglarized his home, which reminds me of this other similar case in MN. And he was found guilty just like Greer probably will be.
