Ernst Gets Constitution Wrong, Says States Can Nullify Laws
Here we have yet another example of a GOP candidate who doesn’t even understand how the basic functions of government in the US work, yet she’s applying for the job. At present we have too many “enthusiastic beginners” in office now, and that’s why the entire congress has been dysfunctional the past four years. Electing more of these self-beclowning fools would be a big mistake. I urge Iowans to pick adult candidates who understand our institutions, our government, and how those work together this election.
-Iowa Senate candidate Joni Ernst may wish to brush up on her high school civics.
Ernst, a Republican, was caught espousing wishful thinking as policy in a September 2013 forum held by the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition, saying Congress should not pass laws “that the states would consider nullifying.”
In a video of the event obtained by the Daily Beast, Ernst describes “200-plus years of federal legislators going against the Tenth Amendment’s states’ rights.”
“We are way overstepping bounds as federal legislators,” she said. “So, bottom line, no we should not be passing laws as federal legislators — as senators or congressman — that states would even consider nullifying.”
