Really? That headline is your idea of caution?

Well yeah, caution about the exact circumstances. The headline only contains my reaction and the few facts established so far. Maybe there is undisclosed reason to shoot. Maybe not. That’s the caution.

“It is unknown if the suspect has any gang affiliations.”
“It is unknown if the LAPD makes unconsciously racist assumptions.”

I might be tempted to agree with you except for those quotation marks around the words investigative stop. Those rather convincingly suggest you believe that an investigative stop is some sort of euphemism for something else. So much for caution.

Why isn’t this story a headline? Has the MSM skipped it? I think it should be just as big as the Michael Brown story.

Actually that’s lifted from the Huffpo headline. Investigative is good to know as opposed to “traffic stop” or “responding to armed man” call etc etc. The quote delineates the type of stop, not intended to add any drama that is not already inherent.

That’s it? I haven’t heard a mention on CNN, Fox, or MSNBC today. Michael Brown is the headline, Ezell Ford is not.

Nothing nice to say here, so I’ll quote from the KTLA article…

A man who did not give his name and identified himself only as a cousin of the victim described what he witnessed, saying he had been around the corner when the altercation first occurred.

“They laid him out and for whatever reason, they shot him in the back, knowing mentally, he has complications. Every officer in this area, from the Newton Division, knows that — that this child has mental problems,” the man said.

Appalling. If true he was executed.

The quotation marks were used in both RWC’s headline and the one at HuffPo because it was a direct quotation from an LAPD news release and that’s one of the things quotation marks are for.

Officer-Involved Shooting in Newton Area NR14309lp

Los Angeles: On Monday, August 11, 2014, around 8:20 pm, Newton Patrol Division officers conducted an investigative stop in the 200 block of West 65th Street. […]

Trayvon Martin’s death wasn’t a headline story initially either. Sometimes it takes a while for sufficient outrage and protests to build to get the attention of the national media. In a nation with 20,000+ murders each year, only a tiny fraction will get national media coverage and even fewer will get it in a timely fashion.

Given my previous interactions with him…probably the first one.
