I swear, every police dept involved in this mess needs to be tested for steroid use and a few other things too. I’ve seen so much of this in the past week it’s freaking depressing. Not that drugs excuse this, I also think there’s a really screwed up culture of “us vs. them” happening that needs scrubbed too. It’s heartbreaking.

I disagree. What it needs to be done is a clean slate, and bring all new police to every police department involved. Leave nothing of the old guard there. Oh, and remove every single military toy they might have there.

I’m sorry for being so radical in this solution, but this is a problem that goes to the deep core of all the police departments involved, and absolutely no will to change it. If the current top brass continues on its place, they will have no incentive to try to get anything righted, and the community will continue to worsen.

They say cooperate with the police and you are better off, Okay how do you get more cooperative than asking directions on where to go as requested or ordered? You get swept with a live muzzle for that?

At this point, I’m thinking taking everything away from local cops except a baton, pepper spray, and a taser is sounding pretty good.

Body-mounted cameras. If everybody is on “candid camera”, they’re much more likely to be on their best behavior. It’s even a good deal for those cops who are playing it by the book.

Unlike firing everybody, this is a step that can be implemented in weeks or maybe even just days.

Cameras will definitively help in the future. Especially with the street cops.

We are up to the point where the police top brass is willing to do anything to protect their own, including evidence tampering and character assassination. Body-mounted cameras will not stop them.

With the will to act, putting the entire FPD on unpaid leave pending investigations into official malfeasance could be done in a matter of hours.
