There is no other religion in the world that condones violence.

Clearly, someone there has never read the bible. “If someone should *mumble, mumble,* (s)he should be brought to *so & so* and stoned to death.” The old testament is full of edicts of that sort. Jesus isn’t mentioned in the bible as much as stoning is. And if chucking rocks ain’t your thing, there are plenty of others types of graphic violence committed by the “chosen people” and the “faithful” in that book.

There are no pluses at all in letting this mosque into our city.

Oh, oh, oh! Mr. Carter, Mr. Carter, I can think of one! You won’t get your asses sued and have to hand over a bunch of money when you lose the lawsuit in court.

Will the DOJ go to bat for me if I want to open a bar and grill next door named “Hog Heaven”.

re: #4 charliefromfla

You wouldn’t need the DoJ, I’m sure you could get a zoning and building permit for that with no problem from the city government.

I know what you mean. Sister Mary Ann would sometimes behead anyone who failed to turn in homework at St. Anthony’s.

re: #4 charliefromfla

This is pure bullshit.

re: #6 charliefromfla

I know what you mean. Sister Mary Ann would sometimes behead anyone who failed to turn in homework at St. Anthony’s.

Is that ignorance or bigotry? Or perhaps it’s what passes for razor sharp wit in your circles? Here are just a few names off the top of my head:

Pope Urban II
Pope Sixtus IV
Tomás de Torquemada
Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros

That’s the short list of barbaric Christians. I’ve been reading up on the history of antisemitism; are you aware of what sort of consequences things like the Crusades and the Inquisition had for Jews living in Christian lands?

Or how about Vlad III (Dracula), impaler of Ottoman Turks (among others), whose father belonged to the Order of the Dragon (founded to protect Christianity in Eastern Europe), who was held in high regard by Pope Pius II, and who was (and still is) considered a Romanian folk hero?

Crucifixion? Not invented by Muslims. Beheading? Been around forever, far predates Islam. And don’t forget the guillotine—that one’s not a Muslim contribution either, it was a 100% European invention. The last person executed by the guillotine in France? A Tunisian in 1977.

Are you aware that in July of this year—just a little over a month ago—a federal judge in the U.S. (Alex Kozinski, conservative, 9th circuit, appointed by Ronald Reagan) said he was okay with the guillotine for executions?

Charles, if you’re watching could you please contact the troll school and ask them to please stop sending ones that haven’t graduated yet?

“said he was okay with the guillotine for executions?”

To be fair, Kozinski was making the point that if we’re going to execute people, we should fully face up to what we’re doing rather than hiding behind clinical “clean” methods like lethal injection.

Especially if we’re so desperate to use lethal injection that we’re using untested drugs and combinations of drugs, turning the execution into grotesque medical experimentation.

Kozinski said: “If we as a society want to carry out executions, we should be willing to face the fact that the state is committing a horrendous brutality on our behalf”

Chances are, if we used the guillotine, either public revulsion would end up ending the death penalty, or else we’d have to accept that as a nation we’re brutal enough to use the guillotine.

I get the impression that although Kozinski supports the death penalty, he wouldn’t be all that upset if it went away.

re: #8 jonhendry

I understood what Kozinski meant—I don’t link to articles without reading them first—in fact, that’s why I intentionally avoided using the article’s headline wording that claimed he was “pushing for” the guillotine (and/or firing squad). He wasn’t, but then I wasn’t responding to a poster who appears to be particularly serious or appreciative of context; if you look at what he’s posted since registering you’ll see what I mean. He’s basically just wandering around dropping turds.

re: #7 CuriousLurker

Sunday night addendum:

Prague, 1415. Jan Hus, a priest, similar to what Martin Luther would write 100 years later, dared to express the belief that there needed to be reforms in the church. His fate? Burned at the stake for heresy.

Nope, no violence condoned there—such a gentle, peaceful religion. //
