French Ex-Hostage Identifies Captor in Syria
A former hostage of Islamic State said Saturday that Mehdi Nemmouche —a French national arrested on suspicion of carrying out a deadly shooting at a Jewish museum in Belgium—was among his captors in Syria.
French journalist Nicolas Henin, who was held by Islamic State along with U.S. reporters James Foley and Steven Sotloff before they were beheaded, said Mr. Nemmouche repeatedly beat him and other Westerners inside an Aleppo hospital the militant group had converted into a prison.
“I encountered him several times during my six months of captivity in Syria,” Mr. Henin told reporters on Saturday, adding that he knew Mr. Nemmouche by the nom de guerre “Abu Omar.”
