Dashcam Vid: What Happens When a Mild-Mannered Guy Reaches for Not-a-Gun at Routine Traffic Stop…

On September 4th, Lance Cpl. Sean Groubert pulled over a driver in a Circle K parking lot in Columbia, South Carolina. He immediately asked the driver, Levar Edward Jones, for his license. As Jones turned wordlessly to grab it, Groubert began firing shots at Jones, landing at least one bullet in his hip.

After asking Jones to grab his license Groubert is understandably alert, and Jones says nothing as he quickly reaches back into his car. Any trained law enforcement official would be foolish not to remain alert in that situation, however, the controversy at hand arises at the point when Groubert shoots Jones before he has a chance to turn around.

One more terrified law enforcement officer who should not be near any weapon of any kind. This is absolute bullshit. This is insane. What the fuck is wrong with us? That cop fired off TWO MORE ROUNDS as the man raised his hands above his head. Apparently the man who was shot was not previously familiar with an insane cop. Once you meet one your whole world view changes. Just drop to the ground, put your hands behind your head and tell the officer where your ID is. And pray you are not kicked in the head for making him look bad in front of people. Beats getting shot. “Where’s your ID? BLAM BLAM BLAMBLAM.” Nice work.

Nope, that’s no excuse. Lax raining and oversight, poor selection criteria, and an ‘us vs. them’ attitude by the cops is to blame.
Good thing there was video evidence, or this jerk would never have been fired or charged.
