Apple sold over 10 million iPhones on the first weekend. No idea what percentage of those were iPhone 6 Plus models, but any way you cut it, millions of iPhone 6 Plus devices were sold.

Apple itself on Thursday acknowledged acknowledged that it has received reports of the phone bending. But cases are “extremely rare.” Out of the millions of phones sold, Apple said a total of nine customers contacted the company about a bent iPhone 6 Plus.

So, yes, the phone can bend. But at least from these “tests,” you really have to be trying to bend it in order to do any noticeable damage.

It takes about 70 ponds of force to pend the iPhone 6 permanently. It takes 150 pounds to to the same thing to an iPhone 5.

My judgement is that if I’ve just spent a shitload of money buying a new iPhone, I might realize that this is a sophisticated computing device and should be handled and treated as such.

iPhone 6 Plus. Nobody’s claiming that the normal sized 6 is being bent.

It actually takes about 90 pounds of force to bend an iPhone 6 Plus, which is the model that is being questioned in all of the “bend gate” articles. Consumer Reports did tests on a number of phones and guess what? They all break when 150 pounds of pressure is applied to them. Again I have to ask - do people realize that these devices are something that one should handle with respect and care? If you are abusive and careless with your personal property, what do you expect?
