I don’t think an actual interview with Hannity would be beneficial. Kudos to your Imam. Please tell him strangers around the country support him.

I’m glad he set conditions and I’m glad they hung up. But, stalking? That’s sick. I hope you guys stay safe over there. :)

Why would any Imam ever go on Hannity?

I do have one point of dispute: my opinion is that most acts of terror are primarily political and secondarily religious. You cannot decouple them but there seem to be a large amount of faithful who don’t resort to terror. Geopolitical strife strains societal dynamics and faith becomes a defining principle when all other social constructs strain or collapse.

I’ve been reading opinions on this lately and agree.

Of course there are exceptions to the rule, in Murica and in other societies. There’s always fundies and nubars. They thrive in strained or collapsed societies, not to mention the strain creates more of them. The Tea Party surged during a lifetime economic downturn with a black president being elected in the midst… and we’re wondering why racism is back, out, loud, and proud.

Politics first, religion second.

The Imam is far from fluent in English, and doesn’t have anybody who can proof things for him.

Going on FB when you’re the target of Fox is high-stakes business. He’d be well advised in the future to get some advice from somebody (Tardis?) on spelling etc.

(past for paste, descent for decent, stocked for stalked)

I know I’d have difficulty putting up FB posts in Spanish…even if I could get the meaning across, there would be awkward grammatical errors. But there’s dictionaries, Babelfish, and friends. What went up would be patchy if it was low-stakes, but not as patchy if it was high stakes.

re: #4 lostlakehiker

He is quite fluent in English, having talked to him a great deal.

The problem is he is someone who posts often from an iPhone.

The iPhone is has auto-correct. Auto-correct is evil.

Kelly’s rhetoric in that screenshot is to be filed under “Antisemitic propaganda + search&replace”.

they need to wake up to the hate in their mist.

You mean ‘midst’.

8 the silent one  Oct 3, 2014 7:53:40am

He shouldn’t go anywhere near that asshole Hannity. Hannity will never allow him to get a word in, and will shout him down, make absurd accusations on Islam, and then won’t allow him to a chance to refute his crap;.

You’d have a more rational conversation with a dog.

Fluent in spoken English may not do the job for written English, which, unlike Spanish, is chockablock with demonic spelling complexities. Plus, there’s people who can spell everything but mangle the pronunciation (me and Spanish for instance), and vice-versa (the bulk of the native English speakers of the world for starters). I don’t see how auto-correct could force “decent” into “descent”. In any case, I still recommend extra care here. There’s also people who take spelling and grammar slips as proxies for higher level limitations, and why give them ammo?
