Nice job! Great pictures. Thank you for sharing. I couldn’t see it through the trees. And our moon last night was huge. Shame that.

THANKS!

Excellent! The last one is my favorite. Thanks for including the focal length & other settings—that’s very helpful.

I took a few this morning from the bay area in California with crystal clear skies. My longest lens is 200 mm, which, while very sharp, just doesn’t result in a big enough image in the picture. I’m guessing that your shot taken with the 300mm lens was with a non full-frame camera. With a typical 1.4 cropped sensor, that would give you the equivalent of about 420 mm in a full-frame camera like mine.

Just goes to show that you can never be big enough.

Yes, I have a cropped sensor (T2i) so the 300mm is equivalent to approximately 450mm.

Doing it right means:

Blocking extraneous light with a piece of cardboard across the eyepiece
Locking up the mirror
adding a weight to the tripod
tripping the shutter remotely with DSLR controller android app
putting a small sandbag across the top of the camera
Focusing fine with DSLR controller set at 10X magnification
setting the Fstop to 11 or 13
