1 I Stand With Big Sodomy!  Oct 10, 2014 11:38:15pm

I heard about this from a French friend. One thing people should know about the Muslims in France is that a lot of them agree with the ban on the head veil! He told me about a recent article where, I think it was over 60% agreed with the ban. I was a little surprised by that I think.
I also read an article about a lot of pissed off French Muslims who are very angry about the extremists and they make sure they publicly denounce them. Maybe I will try to find that article again and post it here.

Ok I found them here

French Muslims to rally against terrorism after hostage murder

re: #1 I Stand With Big Sodomy!

From your articles there seems to be some issues in the Muslim community about denouncements, I quote:

While many of France’s estimated five million Muslims have heeded the call to denounce the atrocities, others such as the French collective against Islamaphobia refused to take part because they say it makes Muslims feel guilty for acts they are not responsible for.

Hamrit Nidal, a Tunisian student living in Paris, had mixed feelings over attending the gathering. He had earlier encountered a woman on Facebook forums that asked if Muslims supported the Islamic State group.

“As a human being how can you ask me whether I support killers or not,” said Nidal. “I find it a bit insulting because I didn’t do anything. And people shouldn’t suspect me to be supporting killers.”

Many of the 5 million Muslims have headed the call. Yes there were some who chose not to or were offended. Not because they supported the extremists, but because they didn’t feel they should be held responsible for someone else’s behavior. And are embarrassed by the extremists.
I don’t see what you pointed out in the article to be evidence of what I first wrote, that many Muslims in France have denounced the extremists.
Do you think that unless every single French Muslim, participates in public denouncement of the extremists, it doesn’t count?

I would hope they are against this barbarism.

Apparently one can’t be too sure they’re against barbarism because, y’know, they’re also Muslim. Just like one can’t be sure a Catholic is against pedophilia unless s/he publicly denounces the decades of abuse covered up by the church, nor can one be sure an anti-choice Christian or Jew is against the murder of doctors who provide abortions, nor can one be sure a man is against rape or wife-beating, etc…. As a matter of fact, by default one should always assume that a lack of vociferous public denunciation of criminal behavior by any member of a given group indicates approval of said behavior, right? Oh, wait… //

You would hope they’re against this barbarism? Does that line of thinking apply to everyone or just Muslims?

Do you also “hope” that the average law-abiding Mexican is against the barbarism of the drug cartels, or do you automatically assume they are? Tens of thousands of people have been killed in Mexico’s drug war, and the cartels are known for doing things like skinning, beheading, dismembering, and otherwise mutilating people, and they don’t just do it to rivals in the drug business.

Where are the marches against ISIS, like the ones we saw against the Israeli defensive against Hamas?
Out of a billion people obviously most Muslims want peace, we are waiting on the Arab Countries not Muslims to put boots on the ground in Iraq to fight ISIS.
They can be against this all they want but if they want to put a stop to this they gotta fight.
Can’t leave it all to the West.

re: #7 HamSandwich

Interesting that you avoided answering the question and are attempting to deflect with a red herring instead. Okay, I lied—actually it’s not interesting as I’ve seen that diversion too many times to be foolish enough to get dragged into a discussion over the morass that is the I-P conflict.

Don’t you wish that there was a larger cross-Sunni response to ISIS and also to fundamentalism in general? If I was a Muslim I sure would.

re: #9 HamSandwich

When you explain why you said that you “hope” the French Muslims who refused to participate in the rallies are against terrorists’ barbarism, then we can move to another subject.

If all the Jews in every country around the world fail to denounce the actions of violent Israeli extremists, should I just 1.) “hope” that the Jews who didn’t participate in denunciations are against brutality because—who knows?—they might be in favor of it, or 2.) assume that the vast majority of law-abiding Jews are decent people who by definition would be against brutality & injustice? Wouldn’t #1 be a form of antisemitism? If not, please explain why.

re: #9 HamSandwich

LOL, so you came back and down-dinged every single comment I made in this thread, but never bothered to respond to my questions except to deflect with, “But Israel!… Arabs!… Hamas!… etc.” That’s pretty weaselly.

BTW, I’ve returned the favor on the negative karma and will remember from now on that intellectual honesty and civility are wasted on you.

If charm were what’s important, you’d be in trouble.

When the right commits a large response to denounce Anders Breivik and those who inspired him like Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer, then you can lecture Muslims on condemning Da’esh and to fundamentalism in general.
