United Kingdom Independence Party Gains Seat in British Parliament

It was expected to do well in two by-elections run on Thursday, but the unexpectedly wide margin of its victory with 60 per cent of the vote in the seaside town, and its strong performance in an election in northern England, has come as a surprise.

In Heywood and Middleton in northern England, a traditional stronghold for the opposition Labour party, it secured almost 39 per cent of the vote, up from less than 3 per cent in 2010.

UKIP is a racist party that sprang out of the BNP. They’re better at hiding their roots than the BNP, but their constituency is the same group of knuckle-dragging anti-immigrant loons.

It’s not good to see them gaining strength in the UK.

I probably should have added a comment so there would be no confusion but I posted this to make people aware that a something regrettable happened. As a long time lurker I’ve seen plenty of evidence that these are bad people playing on the xenophobic fears of struggling folks.

The quoted bit doesn’t mention the fact that the UKIP MP was the Conservative/Tory MP who quit them and also decided to force this by-election.

All UKIP are doing are taking protest votes that used to go to the Lib Dems (Heywood), and votes that used to go to the Tories (e.g. Clacton, the seat they won).

Clacton itself is a run-down seaside town. The sort of place where people blame “immigration” for its woes, but is not only the sort of place that is completely dependent upon outsiders due to its tourism-based economy, but also has little actual non-UK born/non-White population.

All UKIP are likely to do is take votes from Conservative candidates and make a Labour win next May much more likely!

The Labour Party’s response? The same as the Conservatives - “we can be just like UKIP too!”
