I’m not at all surprised by this. If I remember right there was a study some years ago about porn consumption on the pay per view channels, and Utah was highest, closely followed by all other extremely religious states.

A buddy of mine used to be head manager for a hotel. He remarked that every time they had a convention of religious types in the hotel their revenue from pay per view porn went through the roof.

In heavily religious states, abstinence is often pushed as the only safe sex, with very little to offer in the way of sexual education. Unfortunately, that leaves a growing number of people with questions about sex but no answers.

I’m not anti-porn, but porn is not a good way to learn about sex.

No, not the least bit surprising. Bear in mind that vast chunks of the Old Testament are just prose snuff films. I’ve often felt that if a XXX movie maker wanted to cover his ass in the event of a Religious Right takeover of the country, all he’d have to do is tie in his product with the many sexually explicit scenes from the OT and say he was trying to promote Christianity.

THE more repression, the more perversion —

I can’t remember where I learned that, probably here on LGF.

Repression is a factor but there is more to it than that.

I’ve often mentioned my brother” Judas” and his wife “Jezebel” here at LGF, so I am more familiar than most with this phenomenon. These two, like many fundy hypocrites, seem to work consciously at hypocrisy, perhaps as an assertion of power and status. The stronger and more important you are, the more you can get away with. It is therefore a mistake to see this kind of thing as an indication of moral weakness. It is an indication of arrogance, duplicity and moral depravity; that is, just what you would expect from a sub-culture whose foundations like in the need to rationalize slavery.

Similar results have been found for Islamic theocracies, I think.
But in regard to these results - is it clear that it’s mostly conservatives doing the searches? Because all the “conservative state” means is that >50% are conservatives.
