This is the beginning of the end for cable companies and their locked in “package” deals.

It was inevitable and it’s long overdue. People watch television very differently than they did even five years ago. In truth, many people don’t really watch “television” at all. Now we watch entertainment programming on many different platforms, when we want and where we want.

Completely agree - long overdue indeed. Once the big player moves, everyone else will follow suit. Welcome to a la carte programming, coming to your AppleTV or other device soon. It will be interesting to see whether this factors into whatever Apple announces tomorrow.

I got rid of cable a good while back and got a digital antenna.

Wonder if this has anything to do with Canada about to make mandatory bundles illegal?

This is exactly what Apple has been working on for an AppleTV upgrade based on the rumor mills over the last year. It fell through due to providers balking on the idea due to pressure from the big providers who still feel its more important for quantity in channels to justify high premiums.

I can’t wait. HBO will only be the first, so I’m looking forward to missed programming from the other cable based networks that was the result of cutting out the multitude of foreign language based religious and shopping networks. Lol, that includes the ones that broadcast in English, btw. Funny how being told in English about damning in hell or needing a useless item seems like a foreign language these days to my ears.

To others that also cut the cord, I commend you. Our actions are finally having an effect at changing the marketplace. Capitalism at its best may take time, but it will take.
