Ugh I hope the employer isn’t dumb enough to fire her over this.

How many ethical and legal breaches can a citizenry tolerate from the police before serious corrective measure happen?

Think about it-With all we know about the Ferguson police department and what other agencies will do to screen them from meaningful public scrutiny… What extraordinary measures are now justified on the part of a person getting confronted by the gang member with a badge in Ferguson blue uniform? Cameras? Witnesses? Flee to the next jurisdiction? Run and hide?

The police union statement is infuriating. This changes the situation from one where one cop needs to be suspended to an entire force that needs to be let go and replaced.

I hope they are, and the community that supports harassment of protesters pays a hefty settlement when she sues.

Could she successfully sue in an at will state?

Agreed 100%. The feds needs to find a way to thoroughly root out this nest of corruption pretending to be police forces.

In fact, I think we’ve moved beyond a need to remove just the police forces. Some of these jerkwater towns appear to have nothing to do other than extract fees from the poor via traffic fines. Eliminating some such towns by consolidating local governments might be helpful.

Of course not. That’s the point of at-will. Unless you are in a protected category (which has never included political expression), you have no rights at all as an employee in an at-will state.

She couldn’t win a suit against her employer, but I’d hope she could against the cop/town. Maybe I’m naive.

Immunity might not apply in this case.
