It’s the job of conservatives during the busts to make sure that progressives don’t get any ideas about helping the 99% left behind in the economic dust, by whining about the supposed cataclysm of government deficits. It’s their job during boom times to discredit government and tell people they should be able to keep more of “their money” in the form of tax cuts, even as they throw more spending at military and tax cuts for corporations.

Even though I am and have been a registered Democrat, I’ve voted for whom I’ve perceived as the best candidate for the office. And like many here, even though a Democrat, felt some affinity to a “conservative” viewpoint. The steaming pile of bullshit, lies and bigotry and outright racism and hatred that proudly calls themselves Republicans this day makes me regret ever casting a vote for a Republican. I see no voice of reason, nor do I see any person in that cult that has the sand and moral courage to say “Enough.” Part of me thinks there are no “True” Democrats in office, only moderate Republicans posing as Democrats, and the Republican party is the flotsam and jetsam of religious lunacy and right wing thugs promising to undo every last social and political action/law ever wrought by a Democrat. They even look to undo Nixon’s’ Clean Air and Water Act. The ACA is their healthcare proposal. You read their words and see their deeds every day, and yet people vote them in. What does that say about us as a nation? I say it says we are scared children who have forgotten all the blood that was spilled to have the right to organize. The right to negotiate in good faith. The right to vote. The right to choose. The right to be presumed innocent before guilty. The right of privacy. The only right we seem to have now is the right to spew hate and lies and cash in off of it.
