Interesting Chris Christie Quote
“I don’t believe when you’re dealing with something as serious as this that we can count on a voluntary system,” he told Fox News. “This is government’s job. If anything else, the government’s job is to protect the safety and health of our citizens.”
I had to read this twice when I initially came across it. This was said by someone who presumably wants to get the Republican nomination for President in 2016 and is currently running around the country stumping for candidates like Joni Ernst. It seems awfully contradictory to current Republican/conservative ideology
I have some follow ups for the New Jersey governor:
- Since flu kills many people each year in the US, should flu shots be mandatory? Should anyone displaying flu symptoms be quarantined?
- Does this mean that he believes in stronger regulations regarding polluting businesses? Considering New Jersey's history with toxic waste he surely has an opinion.
- Does he believe that climate change is a "serious" problem? Would he apply the same reasoning to dealing with it?
- Few things in our country threaten "the safety and health of our citizens" as much as guns do. Is he in favor of stricter gun control or registration?
