re: #1 Ace-o-aces

That’s a rather simplistic thing to say given a man that hurt no one. And it assumes he had this mental state when he got the guns, and that it did not deteriorate in Mexican prison.

Actually it looks to me like the Mexican government found a fig leaf to cover the release.

Why did Obama wait so long?

Mid-terms, of course.

Meh. Just another common criminal that only is getting off because of the Fake News crowd.

He did break their laws, right? Even if you buy his story, don’t people get in trouble for inadvertently breaking the law in this country? Every couple of months or so I seem to hear about some celebrity or athlete getting caught with at the airport with a gun that they claim to have forgotten was in their luggage.

Yes he did break their law, and fortunately justice that tempers the law takes intent into account. So a guy that accidentally breaks a gun law is not treated as harshly as the men the law was written for-Smugglers and gunmen.

The optics on this were tough on Mexico, so that’s why I think they found an out. And the guy deserves treatment for his PTSD.

Whats his criminal record again?

re: #7 Rightwingconspirator

I think the optics were tough on Mexico only in certain circles here in the American media. I doubt very much there was much pressure from Mexican citizens. A populace that is besieged by gun violence (much of it from weapons brought in from the US) is unlikely to pressure their government to be lenient on a foreigner caught bringing multiple weapons and a lot of ammo into their country illegally.
As for him being treated harshly, he spent eight months in jail and he did break the law. It’s not like he’s been languishing there for years.
