Fake Store Selling Pocket Money Loans for Kids
A super-extreme version of parasitic payday lenders offering pocket money advances to children as young as three has opened in Finsbury Park - but relax everyone, it’s just a hoax.
A fake website was even set up to maintain the ruse (Picture: Darren Cullen/Pocket Money Loans)
The loan shop, which claims to sell credit to kids in the capital who don’t want to save up for toys, ice cream or football stickers, is a bang-on piece of satire by artist Darren Cullen.
There is an amazing website to go with it, mimicking those of real companies, which even offers a free ‘Mr. Repayment’ coin toy if any youngster runs up a late-payment rollover charge of £400 or more.
You can actually go into the Pocket Money Loans shop on Stroud Green Road in north London and find Darren behind the counter this week and next, offering up credit to pre-schoolers at eye-watering rates of 5,000 per cent (though it says this is still 853 per cent cheaper than Wonga).
