Hopefully they forgot the “off”switch.

That’s not technically feasible. The cameras cannot hold hours of footage. They have to go on and off, depending if anything’s afoot. The ones our PD uses have a short flash memory, so they’re always “on”, but they overwrite what they’ve just recorded if not asked to save it. If the officer wishes he’d recorded something, he has ten seconds leeway to hit the button and save it and begin recording for keepers.

Obviously, officers will be expected to record anything that’s headed for ugly. It will go hard with them if they don’t have the tape. Rightly, their superiors and the public will suspect the worst. So—-we don’t expect to see that sort of problem.

LAPD has already had the problem as has Tuscon PD. I was being a bit snarky of course, but a 64 gig card holds a lot of 1080 and really a lot of 720 dpi footage. Add some in processor compression and voila. Workflow problem solved in the parlance of digital.

For example a 64 gig card at 720 DPI, 29.95 FPS allows nine+ hours of video. That’s a whole shift. Source GoPro support Page

I can see where LA should expect to see the problem. We don’t. Different police department culture.
