Police in Austin, TX Investigating After Shooter Killed (targeted Mexican consulate)
What right wing terrorism? I think since the police chief has publicly discussed an anti-immigration motive we are on fairly solid ground discussing that possibility.
Note that a mounted officer fired at the loon from horseback, but investigators don’t know if that shot was fatal or if the shooter killed himself.
AUSTIN, TX (RNN) - The Austin police chief said authorities will begin their investigation into why a man targeted multiple government buildings in the city shortly after 2 a.m. Friday.
The shooter’s targets included the police department’s headquarters, Mexican Consulate and the federal courthouse. After the man died from a gunshot wound, police noticed he was wearing a vest.
No one else was injured, and police have determined there is no danger to anyone else. They were still working to clear an area of the crime scene.
Authorities have not determined a motive, but because of the types of buildings that were targeted, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo opened the possibility anger about immigration could have sparked the shooting. Debates about the issue have been heated in Texas, one of the most likely places for people to cross from Mexico into the United States.
