Nixon’s The One - “Secrets”
Episode three of Harry Shearer’s “Nixon’s the One” bares the man’s horrible paranoia and prejudices, and his proclivity for sleeping pills. His conversations about J. Edgar Hoover are especially instructive. As Sir David Frost says at the beginning, “So there was much the president wanted to keep secret. And ironically, thanks to the [White House] taping [system installed by Nixon] his thoughts and actions became the most un-secret of those of any world leader. Ever.”
He wanted to keep a lot of secrets, but he wanted the secret agencies to open up to him.
