CuriousLurker,

It seems the right is determined to deny the rights guaranteed by our constitution to anyone they don’t like. I’m so glad I’m no longer a supporter of the GOP and don’t take that “stealth Jihad” nonsense seriously anyone.

Also thanks for mentioning my last post here.

Only 500 huh?

Since the bigots won its the “will of the people”, if they’d lost they’d be claiming vote rigging and screaming for a recount.

Also, nominate for front page promotion

Translation-If you are gay, black, Jewish or maybe just from NYC, “don’t come around here boy”. Despicable.

Sigh. I’m so sick of this. Can’t we just ask the questions: Are people doing whatever of their own free will? Is anyone being hurt?
If the answers are yes and no respectively, then we can move on to things that might actually matter.

I was thinking about that as I was making my lunch, y’know state’s rights and all that. I imagined the big cities in progressive states being dynamic islands of diversity & multiculturalism, with the rest of the nation being composed of creepy, rural Children of the Corn type towns that you don’t want to get caught in after dark (or any time, really).

That’s what happens when you have an overactive imagination. *shudder*

From what I understand, Brazil’s anti discrimination laws are part of its constitution

Anti-discrimination laws in Brazil
en.wikipedia.org

Anti-Discrimination and Equality Laws in Brazil - Racial Discrimination in Employment

Too bad we probably won’t be able to get anything like this added to our constitution any time soon, especially when it comes to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered people. If the amendment was clear cut with very precise language, that would really stop these people in their tracks, since they would have to either repeal the amendment, or get some serious wingnuts on the court who didn’t care at all about what the constitution says, but only their ideology.

The states rights thing pains me. I want my home state of California to be able pass more advanced laws about toxics, guns, public safety. The price? Some idiot tries to ban big soda servings. Or plastic bags that biodegrade in the landfill. Okay as these things go not so bad right?

What we of course don’t want is states impinging on Roe V Wade, discriminating or passing ethnic revanchist crap.

“States Rights”=Shorthand too darn short.

This shit is evil. It’s modern day Jim Crow.

Ordinance 119

‘Repeal 119’ took issue with the wording of Ordinance 119 saying it created an “environment where sexual predators can use the cover of an anti-discrimination law to enter previously gender-private areas causing a major public safety risk.” They also said portions of the policy language could “put businesses in danger of being criminally charged for the complaints of a disgruntled employee.”

It’s like prop 8 in California. I just can’t understand how we can reasonably allow people to vote for what rights they believe can be taken away from anyone group of people and not from another. It’s tyranny by majority rule, and there isn’t anything I find more frightening than that.

This isn’t really that surprising, coming out of Northwest Arkansas - it is pretty notorious for the sheer number of hate groups that were founded in a fairly rural area. This is where the Christian Identity movement got its start, as well as being a hotbed of KKK and neo-Nazi organizations that have their own societal infrastructure, including their own homeschooling groups that the state of Arkansas for some reason gave accreditation to.

I wish these people would be honest and just come out and say, “That whole thing about ‘All men created equal’ is a crock of shit. Those aren’t people anyway.” Lying about their motivations just shows they know they’re in the wrong and are trying to excuse their actions.

But they’ll natter about ‘personal responsibility’ until the cows come home.

Jim Crow required you to discriminate against people based on their group by law, with this at least its oppositional. Don’t be fooled however, most likely anti gay bigots would openly support laws requiring businesses not to served gay people if thought they could get such laws on the books and enforce them.

re: #9 Flounder

Yeah, Repeal 119 also said the ordinance would be “bad for our individual freedoms.”” How much would you like to bet they mean what they see as their freedom to discriminate based on their religious beliefs? Did they provide any examples of something like that happening elsewhere with a similar law in effect?

I’m going to add a link to the ordinance that was passed so that anyone with a legal background can point out the parts that created an “environment where sexual predators can use the cover of an anti-discrimination law to enter previously gender-private areas causing a major public safety risk.”

What a crock. It’s pure fear mongering.

LOL—chickenshit. He just came back to revenge down-ding two of my comments without even defending his position. Lame.

Ordinance 119

You take that at face value? If so, you might want to ask yourself a simple question: how is it that the other 22 states with non-discrimination laws have managed to avoid such problems?

You should educate yourself about Arkansas. It is and always has been one of the most racist and least tolerant places in the US. The opponents’ arguments are similar to those who oppose gay marriage and similar to the arguments that folks in Ark. made back in the 50s-70s as to why segregation had to be maintained. They create phony “possible” scenarios as a reason to continue legal discrimination against a whole class of people.

Do you have an actual opinion on this? Or do you just post stuff, without comment, from obscure Arkansas newspapers because it’s a fun hobby? One last question: do you support the right of people to discriminate on grounds of sexual orientation? And if so, why not also race, gender, religion, etc?
