Sam Harris: Pastor Terry Jones Is Right About Islam

AsshatBut he has a sad because only religious demagogues like Jones can see the truth (of how awful & violent Islam is) and that he’s “right for the wrong reasons”. He even goes so far as to say that Muslim terrorists have no political or economic motivations, their horrible deeds are based strictly on Islam. This is his idea of rational thinking.

Remember, folks—he’s not a bigot or an Islamophobe, he’s a “realist”. Sounds very similar to “race realism”…

Is Jones right about atheists and science, as well? Or is that crossing the line?

I just… I can’t even… if someone agrees with Jones on anything more complex or nuanced than something like “water is wet” or “fire is hot”, I don’t know how anyone can take them seriously when they claim to be a rational thinker.

Let’s ask Sam Harris that question directly. I supposed he’ll say “stopped clock.” Our rejoinder is “when a clock stops, you fix it or stop using it.”

Sam Harris does have a religion - the Religion of Hatred (I’m not referring to atheism, by the way, but to Harris’ intolerance and hatred). Only those that might bow to the same agenda that he does - with his poor intellectual “fusional amplitudes” - are worthy in his eyes of any bit of another’s compassion or empathy. Harris ain’t right.

Of course, atheism isn’t about hatred—like any other group of humans there is both good & bad to be found among them.

I don’t know if Harris is simply blind to his own bigotry, or if he’s fully cognizant of it and promoting it intentionally. He’s popular because he provides a veneer of science & intellectualism behind which (some) atheists can hide their decidedly irrational feelings about Muslims. If anything, he harms atheism with his hatred, which is utterly devoid of anything that could be considered humanism.

Yeah, he sniffs at Jones for being a demagogue, when Harris’ own behavior is in large part the very definition of demagoguery.

Next up: Sam Harris says Pamela Geller really is a human rights activist.
