1 No Country For Old Haters  Dec 17, 2014 11:28:41am

I wouldn’t be proud of them, but this is the least they can do to try to restore some confidence in the LAPD, considering their well-earned terrible reputation.

re: #1 No Country For Old Haters

Well since I hammer them when I disagree with them I figure credit where/when due. ;-)

re: #2 Rightwingconspirator

As you’ve pointed out before (well, technically you linked to the ACLU pointing this out) there is potential for abuse in any public surveillance system. This link doesn’t mention what protections, if any, will be in place to prevent the abuse and circumvention of this program.

The article’s link to the mayor’s site isn’t working atm, so I don’t know if there’s anything about this there.

At the very least we’ll have another trial run for police cameras, their effectiveness, and their potential unintended consequences.

Sorry that link is not working. Garcetti addressed the issue, and i think the limits proposed make sense.

This link outta do it.

re: #4 Rightwingconspirator

You misunderstood. It wasn’t the article itself I couldn’t get onto, it was That link seems to be working now. But I’m having trouble finding anything about the limits there too. Could you please link directly to a page discussing the limits and how they’ll be enacted/enforced?

As for the cbs news link you provided, ugh no. Please don’t link them again. They nearly crashed my dinosaur pc with auto-playing videos, (including videos/ads/whatever on the side) not to mention it wastes my capped bandwidth. And it didn’t even mention the limits.

re: #5 EiMitch

Oh sorry about the link.

So far all we got is this, I think between the union and ACLU a decent policy will be hammered out. Hopefully.

Video will be used as evidence in court,” LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said. “It may be used in criminal proceedings and could be subpoenaed for civil proceedings.”
The Police Commission said it will work with the public to consider specific camera policies early next year. The ACLU met with LAPD officials twice during the pilot program and hopes to continue working with them.
