FBI Looking for Person of Interest in NAACP Bombing
Americans really should be more concerned about this than the terror attack in France.
I completely condemn the attack of the extremists against Charlie Hebdo, it is terrorism by anyone’s definition and an attack on press freedoms. I can’t however muster as much animus against the terrorists in France as I can against the terrorists right here in my country. Attempting to bomb the NAACP is terrorism, it is an attack on everyone’s civil rights and freedoms, not just the NAACP’s. When you single out any group for attack you attack all groups in America, and our rights to freely associate, lobby, petition, and speak.
I understand the simple calculus of why “if it bleeds it leads” in our press, but more than 12 could have easily have been dead right here in Colorado Springs, and not on some foreign shore. We need to focus on this terror attack within our country and we must condemn it both loud and long.
FBI agents and local law enforcement officials are seeking a middle-aged, balding white man this morning in connection with an explosion yesterday outside of the Colorado Springs chapter of the NAACP, the oldest civil rights organization in the country.
In a press statement, the FBI described the man as a “potential person of interest” who may have been driving “a 2000 or older model dirty, white pickup truck with paneling” and “a missing or covered license plate.”
An improvised explosive device (IED) was placed against the wall of the building on the 600 block of El Paso Street and exploded shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to The Gazette newspaper. There were two NAACP volunteers inside the office at the time of the explosion, which knocked items off the walls. No one was injured.
