The Most Likely Actual Cause of Addiction
An interesting read by the author of a new book on the failed Drug War. I agree with him for the most part.
He overlooks that it’s human physiology that creates the high of drugs and doesn’t deal with popular, often socially acceptable, addictions like hate and anger. I do very much agree that social isolation is a major contributor to addiction. When you’ve got nothing better to do why not be an addict?
I think the problem in solving this is that our society reduces people to little more than producing-consuming economic entities. Most of us think this is a good thing. The only thing that could be worse for isolation, in my opinion, would be a gigantic prison with individual cells for everybody. I suppose it could be argued that the modern cube farm is a major step in this direction. semi/
Anyway, an interesting article and I pretty much agree with its premise.
