When I started school in the early 50’s on the first day ,I recall showing each other our vaccination scars. We all knew you needed to have one before you started school. I don’t recall actually getting the vaccination but it is still visible today.

My childhood was before many of those vaccines existed. I had mumps, measles, rubella, and chickenpox. Those are the unpleasant memories from my childhood. I missed whooping cough. Thankfully by the time I was born, there was a polio vaccine. One of my classmate’s father used crutches, because he’d had it as a teen. I have a scar on my shoulder, from where I got the smallpox vaccine, which used to be standard, but these days it’s not needed because it’s been eradicated.

“Living healthy” or a “healthy lifestyle” does not stop you from getting those diseases. At best, it’ll make it less likely you’ll die or have permanent damage, but that’s it.

I also had mumps measles and chicken pox long after I was vaccinated.
I don’t know what my original vaccination was for.

re: #3 Souliren

If you had a scar (circular thing), the odds are that was smallpox. As I recall, diptheria and tetanus were also standards at the time.

I remember reading this when it first came out. If ever there was an argument against the whole “Live a healthy life and you won’t get sick” mantra, this is the one. They did it all. And she spent a lot of her childhood sicker than a junkyard dog.

Sorry that’s not part of a “healthy” lifestyle.
