I’ve got something in my eye.

Thanks for this.

I forgot to mention that this was inspired by a comment made by CuriousLurker in a previous thread. That comment motivated me to take the time to write this. Thanks CL!

OMG, no—thank you! What a wonderful article. I don’t know which comment of mine inspired you, but I’m sure glad it did!

Rest assured that knowing there are folks like you out there makes all the bad stuff shrink down to almost nothing. {{{ACO}}}

Nice piece of reading. It’s heartening to see not everybody has jumped on the crazy train.

I’ve received a similar education since I met my wife. She disabled, unable to walk for any distance or stand for long.

The way people treat her, us, is horrid. We ask to use the disabled seating area on public transit and the looks we get. How dare you ask me to move so something like you can be accommodated? Automatic doors aren’t really automatic. Ramps for wheelchairs are very rare. Sidewalks are made slanting towards the street which means when I’m pushing I have to really work to keep the wheelchair from going into the road. Restaurants usually have washrooms upstairs on the second floor or in the basement and are accessible only by stairs.

It is disheartening to realize how little you matter to others.
