Now I’m thinking it might not be smart to hold on to the would be robber. If that were on the street one might want to drop that guy onto the pavement and scurry away. Sand is a lot kinder than concrete.
Other suggestions of my own include going out with a wingman and being very aware of ones surroundings along with ways to depart before or as trouble happens. One more thing to add-Your gear is not worth your life. Once confronted at a disadvantage, give it over, de escalate as possible. Escape as uninjured as possible.
