Remember that this is 2015 and not 1915…

No doubt. And now that it’s been brought to light, I hope Mayor Emanuel and/or Attorney General Holder will be trying to do something about it. The alleged civil rights abuses are right down his alley.

Overall, this is certainly a tragically interesting article. It is especially interesting, though, that reporter Spencer Ackerman apparently did not directly contact and/or seek comment from the Mayor Emanuel’s office about the facility. In fact, the only mention of Mayor Emanuel’s name is in reference to a family member, Sarah Gelsomino, trying to locate Jacob Church. Furthermore, the quote below, containing that mention of Mayor Emanuel, seems to imply a level of complicity on his part.

Only after (Sarah Gelsomino) and others made a ‘major stink’ with contacts in the offices of the corporation counsel and Mayor Rahm Emanuel did they even learn about Homan Square.

Perhaps he didn’t want the mayor and by extension the president caught in the political blast from this story. Mayor Emanuel was President Obama’s chief of staff and Chicago is the president’s adopted hometown. Ackerman (who BTW is not related to yours truly, for those who’ve seen my last name via my Twitter feed) may have wanted this to be a story about the Chicago Police Department, not about Chicago’s political establishment.

As it stands, Alex Jones and his crowd are going to have a field day screaming at the president over this one, even though he has opposed this sort of police tactic since his community organizer days in the 1980’s. And I will not be surprised if someone on Fox News tries to run the “It’s Obama’s fault!!1” gambit as well.

He’s talking about Chicago here. All political ideologies aside, aren’t the Chicago PD and city’s infamous political establishment one in the same?

No, more like Sean Connery in the Untouchables …”The Chicago Way”.

Just so. Chicago’s unique and some of its issues have been around since before LA took off as a city. Heck, Homan Square might well have been set up as a way to prevent cases being ruined by cops in the pocket of gangs or the Outfit. If so, it was of course a bad answer, but an understandable one, given the history.

That only goes for the criminal element, though. As for the protesters back in 2012, I know I’ve shown this t-shirt before but it bears noting that it was very well received by the Chicago PD:

Protestors unwelcome.

No, that a site like this was used to detain some of the anti-NATO Summit nutbars does not surprise me at all.
