I can’t watch.

2 cinesimon  Feb 26, 2015 9:19:44am

First the U.S, now this. On a smaller scale than what America did of course, but still disgusting.

3 Mike R  Feb 26, 2015 9:41:31am

Nothing good comes from people claiming a direct and inerrant pipeline to god, it seems god is always is in perfect alignment with their hatred and bigotry. Understanding and acceptance always fall away to hate and persecution. This destruction is completely senseless.

4 No Country For Old Haters  Feb 26, 2015 10:18:02am

I’m a lot more concerned about constant oppression and murder from these goons, than I am about them destroying statues.

Daesh is Death.

re: #2 cinesimon

When exactly did US forces seek out and wreck artifacts like this? The answer would be never. Say what you will of the liberation of Kuwait or the removal of Saddam by GWB our people never did anything like this.

I don’t conflate the US invasion with Daesh. Hopelessly distant comparison.

Me neither.

Children destroy. Adults create. Enough said.

These are anything but children.

re: #9 nines09

Children in the sense of immature and feeling they don’t have an ability to control their lives.
Any fool can destroy things. Creating things is harder.

11 Rocky-in-Connecticut  Feb 26, 2015 4:25:00pm

Those who wish to deny History are those who destroy the evidence. ISIS is currently doing this in Iraq. Our right wing here in America is going it with our History books, our Constuitonal and Judicial precedent, and our schools in general.

Rest assured, ISIS and Republicans are not equivalent. (at least, not yet). But they are both different level of assholes bent on the destruction of Reality, and seek to invent their own.

12 Uraniabce  Feb 26, 2015 4:28:26pm

re: #1 Jayleia

Neither can I. It’s worse than what happened in Afghanistan.

re: #6 Great White Snark

Oh I see. As long as Rumsfeld didn’t order it, it matters not. It matters not that numerous troops had fun tagging gang signs and ‘patriotic’, white supremacist and anti-Muslim slogans on ancient artifacts and architecture. It matters not that they routinely blew up museums, despite being told exactly what they were.
Nope, all that matter is intent: the intent was not to destroy art for religious reasons, therefore it doesn’t matter that America destroyed far, far more than these scumbags. I take it that you also think that what ISIS have done is worse than what America did in Iraq.
They’re Muslim, after all! That obviously means their murders are 10,000 times more important per body. Because we most definitely should continue to embrace the narrative they want us to. Anyone who firmly believes that American troops “never did anything like this”, can’t be too interested in understanding what really happened during that horrific time.

14 electrotek  Feb 26, 2015 7:12:00pm

For fuck’s sake, not even the fucking Mongols did this. I just want them wiped out for the sake of the world.

15 Dark_Falcon  Feb 26, 2015 8:37:55pm

re: #13 cinesimon

I call ‘horseshit!’. Museums were looted by Iraqis in the fall of Saddam Hussein’s murderous regime, and in a few cases American soldiers helped smuggle out looted artifacts, but I have never even heard the accusation that Americans blew up museums in Iraq. To make that sort of inflammatory assertion without citing reputable sources to back it up is reprehensible.
