Netanyahu’s Likud Party Sweeps to Election Victory
So the people of Israel re-elected the dick who dissed our President and the bipartisan support that this country has always had for them. It gets harder to maintain sympathy for them at a level above “meh”…
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud Party swept to a decisive victory on Wednesday in a general election that exposed Israel’s rifts at home and abroad, including with the White House.
Likud won 30 out of the 120 seats in the country’s Knesset, or parliament. The center-left opposition Zionist Union party led by Isaac Herzog won 24 seats. Israel’s Election Committee is expected to confirm the results Thursday.
Netanyahu lagged in pre-election polls and the result also eluded exit polls that showed the parties deadlocked. Likud is now in a strong position to try to form a coalition government and hand Netanyahu his fourth term, although that process could take weeks to conclude and may involve intense political wrangling.
