I am not sure how I feel about mandatory voting but I do understand where President Obama is coming from. Rubio and his allies though basically object because they know that with higher turnouts, they’d be fucked.

Only ‘conservatives’ would decry voting as an attack on freedom.

Obama wakes up every day, thinking, “what can I say or do today that will drive the nut jobs to higher levels of crazy.” Sure, it’s easier than Dick Cheney shooting lawyers in the face but even a president has to have some fun.

Hang on. I saw that video and he said “it would be transformative if everyone voted” Just because he had just been referencing places that do, does not make the above a declaration we should have it.

Given the number of rightwinger-types who I have seen demanding the repeal of the 19th (women’s suffrage), 23rd (abolition of poll taxes), 24th(electoral college representation of Washington DC residents) and 26th (18-year old voting age) amendments, why does this “outrage” at Obama’s statements surprise anyone at all?
