Interesting pitch! I hope the people running this “store” stay safe.

A horseshit stunt is what this was, showing models of guns that aren’t legal in NYC or even in New York State for that matter. There was no attempt to arrest would-be buyers, so it wasn’t entrapment but it was still deeply dishonest.

The spiel quoted above is about a child shooting his infant brother. But that would not have happened had the gun been stored in the sort of safe storage units that can be purchased at the vast majority of gun stores. Another outlet quoted a similarly ‘all bad pitch’ about a model of an Uzi, a fully-automatic weapon that is again not legal for ownership in New York State and the purchase of which is subject to strict federal controls and registration.

Again, IMO this was just a crappy anti-gun stunt.

And the dishonest portrayal factor of this stunt goes up even further:

Fake gun store attendant best known as Grand Theft Auto mega crook

In an ironic twist, it turns out the counter staff at the faux gun store in Manhattan’s Lower East Side stocked with hidden cameras and illegal guns was none other than Ned Luke, known for his depiction of a hyper violent criminal in the GTA series.

The actor recently appeared in a video released by gun control groups in which he stars as the only salesman at “The Gun Shop” standing in front of a wall of firearms ranging from military surplus SKS rifles to submachine guns. Those interested in items were advised of a tale of gun violence purportedly associated with each firearm up for sale.

Luke, whose IMDB profile lists him with some 28 credits, is likely best known for his portrayal of Michael De Santa in Grand Theft Auto V, an open world, action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games.

SNIP

“GTA allows you to tap into everything that you can’t do in real life,” said Luke in a 2013 interview with PC Advisor defending the violence in the game. “In real life, you don’t get to go out and rampage and do all these bad things. Gangster movies have been huge forever-Godfather, Casino, Goodfellas, all the way back to Jimmy Cagney. People lose themselves in the bad boy. And there isn’t anybody badder than the dudes in GTA. That’s why they’re so popular. You get to actually go out and do all these horrible things.”

Hmm so IOW it’s a gun store run by antigun people the same way a Crisis Pregnancy Center is run by antiabortion people? How equally utterly without morals.

No, it’s not the same at all.
FTA:

The store — which was not operational — opened for two days last week in an art gallery that was transformed for the occasion.

Did the availability of safe storage units prevent that child from shooting his infant brother? That argument would hold more weight if safe storage units were mandatory purchases prior to the purchase of a gun.
The incident also wouldn’t have happened if there wasn’t a gun in the home.

re: #3 Dark_Falcon

They hired an actor to portray a sales attendant in a fake store. Shocking.

Maybe they should have held interviews and not told the salesperson that this was for a two day video. Then, when they fired the person after two days they wouldn’t have been dishonest. Or something.

re: #8 Lumberhead

It’s not just that they hired an actor, they hired an actor whose signature role is as the protagonist in an ultra-violent video game. And what’s more, there’s no way they didn’t know that. Again, it goes back to the dishonest portrayal of guns this stunt engaged in, which was William’s point as well.

It’s possible to make an honest anti-gun case and we’ve had articles linked to from LGF that have done so. I don’t with those cases, but I feel they were made honestly and with due regard for the truth. By contrast, while I agree that this stunt was not as damaging as a dishonestly run crisis pregnancy center, what it did have in common with such a place was the “Lying for Jesus” in its dishonest portrayal of firearms. And not put words in William’s mouth but I think that was what he found unacceptable.

re: #9 Dark_Falcon

An actor is hired to play a role. I don’t see what his previous roles has to do with anything.
You keep saying that guns are being portrayed dishonestly. Can you tell me exactly what was dishonestly portrayed?
As to the pregnancy crisis issue comparison, it is completely bs. If you think it isn’t, please explain to me how they are the same.
