Will the #jesuischarlie crew chime in and condemn this crime now?

Ehm, wut?

It’s not the first time in France. From 2013:

Muslim woman loses baby after veil attack

There was another attack on a woman wearing hijab last week, I think. I don’t remember where it was, but I know I bookmarked it. If I can find it later I’ll add it in a comment, Then there’s this, from Newsweek last month:

80% of Anti-Muslim Attacks in France Against Women, Says Report

I can’t say I’m surprised. I suspect part of it has to do with the simple fact that we’re the most easily identifiable Muslim target for bigots. As a Muslim woman who’s been wearing hijab for 20+ years I can also tell you that the verbal attacks I’ve experienced have almost exclusively come from men. Thankfully, I’ve never been physically assaulted.

I can’t say for sure, but based on the shocked looks on many of the men’s faces when when I snarled right back at them in unaccented English, I’d guess that they pick on women because—like most bullies—they’re essentially cowards. Why do I say this? Because I’ve never been verbally assaulted when accompanied by a man, not even once.

They also tend to prefer lone women, in my experience. I can only remember one time where it happened when I was with another woman (she was also Muslim and wearing hijab). We were walking down the street in Manhattan, close to an intersection with a traffic light—this was maybe a year or two after 9/11. A guy who was stopped at the light in a white work truck opened his window and shouted epithets at us and drove off. I don’t recall exactly what he said, but it was ugly so I’d rather not remember it anyway.

For the record, both my friend an I have sons that would make good linebackers—both are in their 30’s, mine about 6’ tall and hers 6’4”. As you’ve probably already guessed, not a single bigoted “patriot” has even so much as blinked at either us when accompanied by our sons.

Chickenshit, every last one of them. They only attack when they think you’re weaker than them or when they have you outnumbered. *spit*

Found the other one—it was early this week, not last week, in Australia:

Muslim woman speaks out about attack on Sydney train, says she was targeted because of religion - ABC News

There was also this last week, in North Carolina:

American Muslim Family’s Home Attacked In The Middle Of The Night

FWIW, I only post a small fraction of the (supposedly nonexistent) Islamophobic crap that lands in my inbox every day courtesy of Google Alerts. I do keep track of it all though. Maybe I should make a blog dedicated to nothing but listing links to all that stuff.

And I bet they claim Muslims are “savages” too. Fucking assholes.

And they are usually the ones that claim Muslim men are the violent ones.

Ehm, wut?

A lot of those douchebags that participated in that bandwagon led to rampant Islamophobia which results in Muslim women like her being assaulted.

The same idiot douchebag logic that is used to generalize about Muslims all the time.

Exactly.

re: #6 electrotek

1. A couple of Muslims do some horrible, violent things in France.

2. There are demonstrations and emotions run high.

3. Two asshole bigots use their douchebag logic to blame all Muslims and proceed to retaliate against a completely innocent pregnant Muslim woman.

4. You turn around and lather, rinse & repeat by using the same idiot douchebag logic to blame all the #JeSuisCharlie protestors.

You want to assign (group) blame with that logic? Okay, how about we blame the the shooters (Muslims!) that attacked the CH office & kosher grocery? No? Okay, how far back do you want to take the blame game? French colonialism? The Ottoman Empire? The Crusades?

This is precisely why I’m hesitant to up-ding anything you say or attempt to have a calm, rational discussion with you—it’s simply not possible when you fly off the handle all the time. It’s childish. It’s tiresome. And just like The War TARDIS, your repeated outbursts render your apologies meaningless.

Behave like an adult, FFS.

re: #8 CuriousLurker

There were a lot of bad guys latching onto the tag, because of course they would. But they weren’t the majority. And now, instead of discussing the Islamophobic crime in question we have to deal with distractions. Sigh.

Excellent point.
