‘The Iranians Didn’t Get the Sudetenland’: Conservatives Freak Out Over Iran Nuclear Framework
Diplomats agreed on a framework Thursday for a deal to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions. In exchange for a gradual lifting of sanctions, Iran will reduce the number of centrifuges spinning at its uranium enrichment facility in Natanz, partially convert its Fordo enrichment site to a facility for medical isotope production, and subject its facilities to international inspections. If Iran reneges on its pledges, international powers can reimpose sanctions on the country.
For the crowd that believes war is always the answer, Thursday’s announcement represented an utter catastrophe. While it remains to be seen if the framework will lead to a viable and enduring agreement ahead of a June 30 deadline, these conservatives have already concluded that the framework is a complete failure, perhaps even an invitation to Armageddon.
Salon rounds up some of the most hysterical reactions below.
