Botched Phoenix rape investigation leads to major lawsuit settlement
I don’t really think that anyone who has read much about Arpaio will be very surprised.
The girl’s rape case was among more than 400 sex-crime cases that were inadequately investigated or not looked into at all by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s office over a three-year period ending in 2007.
So they’re paying $3.5 million to the botched investigation into the rape of a 13 year old girl. The county has already paid more than $68 million in settlements during Arpaio’s 22 years with the sheriff’s office.
Possibly too much time spent grandstanding about a certain birth certificate, or perhaps too much time spent looking for illegal immigrants, too much time posturing for the media, and nowhere near enough time doing real law enforcement work. Only thing that disturbs me more than Arpaio himself, is those who kept him in office. But then, I guess there’s always someone willing to buy a show pony.
