As a long time SF fan this makes me so sad. The trolls are ruining everything, and despite their protestations, I’m sure they’re doing it for the lulz and no other reason.

Another good approach and discussion can be found here. (Full disclosure: I have requested one of the memberships that she has offered. )

I’m already a supporting member. After reading a lot of this type of post, I’ll end up voting for “no award”

Don’t. Find the good stuff. The real thing. Stuff like “Ancillary Sword” and vote for it. A no award is almost as good as win to the trolls. Only by ensuring that the stuff that opposes their troglodyte thinking wins can they be shoved back into their caves.

What bothers me the most about this is that this astroturfing campaign by a group of men’s rights advocates and racist bigots is being orchestrated by someone who is effectively wanting to ‘buy’ what is supposed to be a merit-based award - the only reason that political views even come into play is because of the sliminess of the people who are stuffing the ballot box.

I say this because the science fiction community, as a whole, really is an apolitical lot. If this weren’t the case then people like Robert Heinlein and Orson Scott Card (both winners of multiple Hugo, Nebula, and other SF awards) with what would be best described as “eccentric” societal and political views wouldn’t have nearly the accolades that they achieved.
Hell, even the L Ron Hubbard fanatics didn’t try a stunt like this, and they are probably one of the most notorious groups in the world when it comes to organized shenanigans.
