Vicious Babushka,

Maybe they celebrate the Fourth of July because they know that their failed rebellion would have never happened, if America hadn’t won its war for independence.

I’m personally wondering how angry they were when Brazil finally saw the light and outlawed slavery. Maybe by than they finally realized that they couldn’t make it last forever or perhaps they understood that another rebellion would probably be futile, especially if they realized they would be hopelessly outnumbered this time.

Here’s an interesting thing about Brazil, despite having race based slavery longer than the US, and harboring people who fled there, at least in part so they could keep their slaves, Anti discrimination laws are written into their constitution and have been for awhile.

yeah, Confederados are so fascinating/weird.

They celebrate Fourth of July because many Southerners see themselves as instrumental in American Independence because that’s where the turning point of the Revolution happened. (I grew up near the Cowpens Battleground in South Carolina and they celebrate it every year)

Considering the first American government was a Confederation (Articles of Confederation), Southern memory/Confederate nationalists built the story that the Southern secession was more “American”/vanguard than what the Yankees had made the nation into during the early 19th century.

Confederados and Southern Confederates think they celebrate the “real” Fourth of July.
