They may have the tanks but do they have crews both combat and maintenance?

They have a lot of Iraqi army deserters and some volunteers from Egypt and Saudi Arabia so they probably have passable operating crews. Anything beyond basic maintenance is going to be out of the question but Baghdad is only 65 miles away and tanks can be run quite a bit past their designated maintenance intervals. For instance, an engine may have a designated time- between-overhaul of 1400 hours but this does not mean it will stop dead at that time. Most turbines will run for twice or more of their overhaul life, with decreasing reliability and safety the whole way, but ISIS couldn’t care less about that, especially since they got the tanks for free.

Biggest problem? Russia now has fresh samples of our best armor plate. That’s needed to create weapons that can defeat it. ISIS will be happy to sell them one or more.
