Half of Gun Owners Support an Assault Rifle Ban, So Why Are Politicians Still so Afraid of the NRA?
By “Mike The Gun Guy”
What I find significant is that 45 percent of gun owners in both surveys support bans on the sale of assault rifles and high-cap mags. Researchers who focus on policy issues traditionally look for majority opinion as a guide to what may or may not be possibly changed in the public domain. But the fact that slightly less than half of all gun owners support the ban on assault rifles is a finding which needs to be considered on its own terms.
Wow. Way to miss an opportunity. First of all, half? I don’t support an assault weapon ban, given a 10 round limit. But that’s for another chat.
What the author missed is that NRA membership among gun owners is maybe 5% to 10%. Support among shooting facilities has slipped. So why did the author settle for half? 95% of gun owners not sending dues really makes one wonder why the congress is so afraid of the NRA. They sure as heck are not afraid of 5% of average gun owners! NRA claims about 3.5 million members, some critics say the number is lower. Many get that first year membership with a new gun or range club membership and never renew. But the US has 60 million or more gun owners. Of our 300 million plus population.
He chose to focus on one kind of gun and ignore that the NRA gets the bulk of its support from gun, ammo and parts makers. Totally missed that 95% of gun owners do not support the NRA.
