“Active Measures” such as this from Moscow should not surprise anyone who’s paying attention. This is what Russia does to weaken its foes.

Looks like Russia’s ‘conservatives’, most of whom used to be Communists, are no better at handling reality than our ‘conservatives’. It wasn’t the U.S. that cost the Warsaw Pact the Cold War. It was the USSR.

They tried to match capitalist production capabilities with Marxist command economy principles, which thanks to Brezhnev’s deal with the Armed Forces to obtain their backing, meant that they put much of their production capacity towards making weaponry, The figure I heard was about 30%.

As I’ve noted before weaponry is a political necessity but an economic negative. Such a large percentage of the economy dedicated to weapons is a huge money pit which eventually swallowed the Soviet Union and its allies.

Humans. *rolls eyes*

The Kremlin’s troll farms and agents of influence have been hitting this hard.

To take another example, we have had routine military exercises in Texas every year for more than a hundred years and it scarcely raised an eyebrow. Suddenly Jade Helm comes along and it is magically spun into something new and sinister. Decades old installations are portrayed as mysterious new facilities to help subjugate the people. How did this happen? I think there is a lot of Russian money flowing into the bottom feeder element of the media, academia, and fringe politics in Texas.
Truth is stranger than fiction: The conspiracy industry itself is a conspiracy.

Shorter version: People in Russian have time to waste.

It is only a waste of time if one assumes that their goal is to actually separate Texas from the United States. That is not their goal, however. Weakening the United States and the current administration is. The actual subversive effect of these neo-secesh nutsburgers is probably not worth the effort the Kremlin is devoting to them, but it does demonstrate that the Russian propaganda machine is willing to go anywhere on the ideological map and work with anybody in their effort to confuse and incite. It is only part of an effort to find and encourage subversives in this country and there is no downside to betting on a long shot. If, for example, the Jade Helm bullshit results in actual violence, the effort will have achieved its goal. The dupes who end up dead or in prison over it are a cheap and easily expended asset.

The Russians in this case probably conflate the Texas secessionists with the much more serious separatist movements they are used to seeing in their part of the world. Either that, or they hope that their audience will make this error. This must be heady stuff for the secesh kooks themselves, from widely mocked fringe dweller to globe trotting international intriguer in one quick and easy step. There is no shortage of opportunists and quacks in this country who would be willing and eager to make the same transition.

Russia us projecting their history and fears onto us.

However, we do need to take Russia seriously. We should be supporting every group that wants to leave the Russian Federation. Make Russia look like a Krokodil addict.

re: #3 Shiplord Kirel

The real irony is that if the Federal Government threatens to pull out of Fort Hood and all those Air Force bases and military facilities around San Antonio these same Texas based Jade Helm wacko conspiracy cretins will try and claim Obama is taking away their military “protection”…. bizarre wacko logic.

*”protection” meaning Federal Govt humongous slabs of spending pork for all those military bases and equipment, not to mention military equipment manufacturing and maintenance.
